SUNNYROO + MIA’S PLACE

Stronger communities. More secure futures.
Inspired by our daughter Mia, who has autism, Mia’s Place is the nonprofit we plan to build alongside Sunnyroo. We want to help communities support people with special needs and their families throughout life.
Through school partnerships, responsible treatment research and meaningful employment opportunities, our mission is to give parents practical resources and greater confidence in the future—and help create communities where every person belongs, has choices, and can build a life with purpose and lasting security.
Our vision is a future where people with special needs have a place to belong, opportunities to pursue what matters to them, and support they can count on. People with special needs, their families and the communities around them will help shape this work.
Sunnyroo’s promise covers 100% of profits—the money remaining after business costs. Mia’s Place is a planned nonprofit. Its school-support, research and employment initiatives are being developed.
MIA’S PLACE · OUR PRIORITIES
Three ways we aim to help communities care for people with special needs—and give families resources, connection and confidence for the years ahead.
01 · SCHOOLS
Partner with school communities to support special education programs, practical resources and inclusive opportunities. Help students participate, learn and grow while giving families and educators more support for the journey ahead.
Explore School Partners ↗02 · RESEARCH
Support ethically conducted research into treatments and supports with the potential to improve health, wellbeing and daily life. Let evidence and the priorities of people with special needs and their families guide the work.
Research partnerships and funding priorities are in development.
03 · EMPLOYMENT
Help create meaningful, fairly paid employment with individualized support, opportunities to develop skills and room to grow—so people with special needs can pursue their interests and build greater financial stability.
Employment opportunities are a future goal, shaped around each person’s strengths, choices and needs.
Our goal is to connect parents and families with practical resources, informed choices and supportive relationships—so planning for school, adulthood and life beyond a parent’s daily care feels less uncertain.
HOW WE HOPE TO GROW
Our plan is for Sunnyroo and Mia’s Place to grow together, turning a shared purpose into practical support for schools, research and employment.
First · Build the foundation
Build Sunnyroo and establish Mia’s Place. Listen to people with special needs, parents, educators, researchers and employment specialists to understand where support can make a difference.
The focus: A sustainable source of giving and priorities shaped by communities.
Next · Begin partnerships
Start focused partnerships and small initiatives across our priorities as funding and readiness allow. Explore school support, carefully selected treatment research and supported employment pilots with experienced partners.
The focus: Practical support, responsible partnerships and learning from the people involved.
Long term · Grow with care
Grow the initiatives that show meaningful benefit. Strengthen lasting community relationships, support transitions into adulthood, and work toward dependable resources and employment opportunities over time.
The focus: Continuity, greater stability and confidence in the future.
We’re at the beginning. These are planned phases, with timing and scale still to be determined.

Sunnyroo is our candy brand, and our commitment is to donate 100% of its profits to Mia’s Place. Profits are the money remaining after Sunnyroo’s business costs. Mia’s Place is the nonprofit we plan to establish to help communities support people with special needs and their families through school support, responsible treatment research and meaningful employment. Its initiatives are in development.
Mia inspires the mission, and the vision reaches beyond one diagnosis. We want to support people with a range of special needs, their families, and the schools and communities around them—from childhood into adult life. The scope and eligibility of individual initiatives will be defined as they are developed.
Our aim is to support ethically conducted research into treatments and supports that could improve health, wellbeing and daily life. Evidence, qualified research partners, and the priorities of people with special needs and their families will guide future decisions. Research partners and funding criteria have not yet been selected.
The employment program is a future goal. We plan to begin with a small number of paid roles, develop individual support with employees and employment specialists, and grow as the business can sustain it. We’ll share opportunities when they’re ready.
